Alaska Kicks-off High School Football's Regular Season on Friday
by Jeff Fisher
Alaska High School Football Huddle
Hard to believe, but the regular season is upon us with the eight-week regular season kicking-off Friday night.
Two-a-days began across the state on Monday with every team dreaming of making it to the state championship games in October.
I spent a lot of time on the road this week, but had a chance to check-out good story about new West Valley head coach Daniel Esparaza. The article from the Fairbanks News-Miner looks at the excitement that the 24-year old coach is brining to the Wolfpack.
West Valley is coming off a 2-6 season in 2009.
Saturday in Juneau, Thunder Mountain and Juneau-Douglas scrimmaged. The J-D shutout the second-year Falcons, who according to the Juneau Empire have high hopes in 2010 after a 3-4 inaugural season last year.
Meanwhile, Shaun T. Cox of the Juneau Empire reports that the Crimson Bears have some rebuilding to do after losing in the quarterfinal round of the Big Schools playoffs. Juneau-Douglas finished with a 6-3 record in '09.
