Alaska High School Football Scoreboard - Week 8

by Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

Kenai (7-1) found out why Soldotna (6-2) is the three-time defending Small Schools champ Saturday as the Stars beat the Cardinals 52-27 to win the Northern Lights Conference championship and claim the top-seed for the playoffs that start next weekend. Kenai is the #2 seed and will probably face the Stars again in the championship game in three weeks.

What made Saturday's win some incredible is that Kenai had allowed only one touchdown all year while shutting out six of seven opponents. The Anchorage Daily News reports that Kenai actually jumped out to a 14-6 lead before the Stars. Soldotna's two losses were to big schools....Anchorage West and Colony.

Speaking of West, the Eagles will be the #1 seed when the Big Schools post-season begins next week. West beat South 26-21 Saturday to capture the Cook Inlet Conference regular season title. The Anchorage Daily News has the game story.

Top-ranked Anchorage West received a scare from Dimond Wednesday night, but according to the Anchorage Daily News a fake punt kicked the Eagles into high gear and a 33-9 victory. Because of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashana, which begins at sundown on Friday, the Cook Inlet Conference has changed this week's schedule, which included two games on Wednesday.
