Bartlett Shuts Down West On Way To 2-0 Start

The last time Bartlett shutout an opponent was back in 2002. That opponent Anchorage West. How did that season end? With Bartlett winning Alaska's Big Schools state championship.

Well if history repeats itself, 2006 could be a big year for the Golden Bears.

Barlett shutout West 36-0 with its star running back on the bench to move to 2-0 on the season and in Cook Inlet Conference play. Next up is Anchorage East, which has won four straight against Bartlett.

To read a complete game wrap on how Bartlett won with all-state running back Vernon Pennywell on the bench, click on our headline "Bartlett Shuts Down West On Way To 2-0 Start".

Juneau Wins Battle of Alaska High School Football Champions

Can small school in Alaska compete with big schools? That question may have been answered Saturday when, for the first time ever, defending Big Schools champ Juneau crushed defending Small Schools champ Kenai 39-0. Juneau won the battle of reigning champs with a rock solid defense that limited Kenai to just 21-yards in total offense.

On offense, Juneau was led by senior quarterback Chris Hinkley, who completed 10-of-19 for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Hinkley also ran for a score.

Bohman led a powerful Palmer rushing attack that amassed 511-yards, but in the second half it was the Moose defense that came-up big with three interceptions of West quarterback Sven Solberg, who threw for 277-yards and two touchdowns.
