It took seven tries, but the seventh time was the charm for the Soldotna Stars. Soldotna beat Kodiak 29-20 Saturday in the Alaska Small Schools State Football Championship game.
Soldotna's first state football championship came via a strong ground attack that rolled-up 301 yards on 61 attempts. Soldotna finishes the season 9-1 and with a nine game win streak. The Stars opened the season with a 41-6 loss to Colony, which will play next Saturday for Alaska's Big Schools title.
